2011/2012 Waterfowl Season

As the harvesters are entering the fields and vineyards around here I drive along thinking of cool weather, which equates to birds stuffing themselves in freshly harvested corn fields and rice patties. As the birds are preparing for the change of the seasons, we also see changes every year. Our blinds will be the same as last year, but unfortunately we had to drop one because of budget constraints. We will continue with the North and South Harbison Blinds and the McRae East Blind. These were our most successful shooting blinds for last season and would best serve our hunters for this season.

The hunting opportunities continue to increase for water fowlers in California. The early Canada Goose hunting season is October 1st – 5th providing a chance to reduce the number of the over populated non-migratory big geese. In addition to that there will be a late season snow goose and white front goose hunt in February from the 18th to 22nd, check the DFG regulations for more details on these hunts.

Our blinds will not be available for the Canada goose season, but they will be available for the late season goose hunts. Because the hunts are so late in the year there are no promises that there will be water at the blinds. The fields will probably be drained or still draining, so they most likely will not be disked at that time. I spoke with our blind brokers and they confirmed that we will have access to the fields, but no promise as to the condition of the fields. I hope everyone has a fun and enjoyable season as new memories are made. Please be safe and considerate of those you hunt with always.
