"For Hunters by Hunters"

THE PRESIDENT'S CORNER

September 2008

By: Dan Ochsner, President, Valley Waterfowl

Every year at this time (right at September 1) I start looking forward to October.  Duck season is just around the corner.  We have kept our promise to you, our members, and we have leased four blinds, three that will house 4 hunters, and one that will house 3. With 44 hunt days during the sesason, (not including storm days), we have 660 hunt opportunities for Valley Waterfowl members.  Enough said. Read Ron Tobeck’s article carefully, send in your paperwork and enjoy the season.

I can’t stress enough the word “Safety” when hunting.  Always think about the people in the blind, any dogs, and the hunters in the neighboring blinds.  Please bear in mind that

a duck or goose is not worth taking a marginal shot.  Safety must always be our first priority.  Each of you represents Valley Waterfowl when you are in the field.  We wish to continue our reputation of responsible hunters, knowing that we are on display, and a single inappropriate action can spoil the future for all.

Valley Waterfowl Services

We are expanding our Youth Services at Valley Waterfowl, and I am pleased to announce that Bruce Bullard has stepped up to develop an ongoing youth program for youngsters under age 16.  Watch our website at Valleywaterfowl.org for future developments in the Youth Services area.

To contine my conversation about youth, I am pleased to announce that the recipient for the Valley Waterfowl annual $1,000.00 college scholarship for 2008 is Blake Jump. Blake is attending San Joaquin Delta College this fall, and will continue for 2 years before his transfer to a 4 year school.  Blake has been a member of Valley Waterfowl for over 2 years.  He is an avid waterfowler, and has worked as a committee member at the last two Annual Sportsman’s Dinners.  Congratulations  Blake!

Upcoming events

Valley Waterfowl 5th Annual Sportsman’s Dinner is March 7, 2009. We have enclosed a Dinner ticket order form.

Next newsletter will be out in January 2009, just before the ISE Sportsman’s Expo in Sacramento, January 15th thru the 18th.

In Closing

Enjoy the season.  For me it is the outing, the sun rise, companionship with long time

friends and relatives, and oh yeah, cupped wings, and “Take em”.
